DELTA vs. SPD Clip-in Pedal Systems
Peloton bikes ship with Delta compatible pedals, which means if you want to clip in you need a Delta Compatible Cleat to attach to your shoe. The cleat connects the shoe to the pedal, so of course, you would want the right compatible cleat type. The other type of clip-in pedal system is SPD pedals which are more preferable for indoor cycling as this cleat is often recessed into the sole and makes it a lot easier for walking around and especially when doing off-the-bike cross-training workouts + safer —cyclists who already own a broken-in pair of SPD clip-in shoes will most likely also want to replace or convert their Peloton pedals for SPD type pedals to use their current favorites spin shoes at home. A QUICK NOTE ON CLEATS
Cleats are not usually included with Cycle shoes unless offered as a bundle. A set of cleats are however included with most new pedal purchases so you’re good to go — just confirm you ordered the right compatible cleat type for your pedals and cycling shoe. Delta Cleats are a larger more open triangular shape with three holes. Whereas SPD cleats have a 2-hole system and are smaller.
Our recommendation for the best performance SPD cleat is the Shimano SM-SH51 which is also available here on Amazon. If you need to order just a single pair of cleats you can find a Shimano SPD Cleat set there, which includes a 4mm Allen Wrench, always useful to have — you can find Look Delta Bike Cleats at Amazon as well. You can find less inexpensive cleats, but you usually get what you pay for. Shimano tend to be the most durable.
DUAL HYBRID TYPE PEDALS
The Venzo pedals below are dual toe cage and SPD cleats. They are compatible with Peloton bikes and most SPD-compatible cycle shoes (though not Peloton shoes). They can flip over to let you cycle in regular sneakers, too, so they're pretty versatile for the money especially if you have family or friends that would prefer to use regular sneakers to ride. More Pedal options are listed below under recommended Clip-in pedals. If you are not a fan of the toe-cage, then you may prefer the Shimano EH-500 SPD dual-sided type pedals which supports clip-in cycling shoes and a sneaker shoe without the cage. Then there are dual type Pedals that support both Delta and SPD cycling shoes, like the BV Pedals Dual SPD & Look Delta Compatible. Useful if different riders prefer different cleat systems.

For riders who need or prefer a wide cycling shoe, we have a great recommendation — the Sidi Alba 2 Mega Cycling Shoe. This is an excellent shoe but, runs more expensive than those we mentioned above. It is high-quality constructed with most of the individual parts being replaceable once they’ve worn out. This cycle shoe comes with a 3-hole design that will work with Look Delta cleats for Peloton or SPD cleat pedal systems.
You should also check out the Nike SuperRep Cycle Shoe mentioned above. Recommend you size up a full size. Well-suited as the upper part of the shoe has a stretchy light-weight mess material with a strap-Velcro closure to keep your foot secure. ECHO HEART RATE APP
For the other Peloton Bike generations, you can download the ECHO heart rate for Apple Watch by PK Fitness. There are other apps, but we like this one as it offers Free to use (limited to 20-minute sessions) or unlimited use for a one-time fee of only $14.99.
Basically, the way ECHO works is that the watch sends your heart rate, blood O2, etc. to your iPhone ECHO app which then relays via Bluetooth to the Peloton console so you can see your numbers on the bike’s touchscreen display.
