Allbirds Vintage Style Shoe from new Design team
Sustainable footwear and apparel label Allbirds has launched new shoe with comfort and a cool vintage look, The Courier. Allbirds' financial turnaround is based on creating new designs to gain market share from its competitors.
The Courier is available in five colors for men and women and has a contemporary look with an old-school vibe like Nike’s Cortez shoe. The sustainably focused style features an upper made of organic canvas cotton and eucalyptus tree fiber and includes a lining made of Tencel lyocell and recycled polyester blend.
The midsole has the company's sugarcane-derived Green Eva Foam for cushioning in just the right spot. The Courier is also lined with a Tencel Lyocell and recycled polyester blend, offering elasticity and a soft, breathable feel that is comfortable with or without socks.
Now available to shop online at Allbirds for $125 with FREE shipping in both men's and women's sizing. There is a 60-day return policy if you do not find them to your liking.
New Allbirds financial path Forward
The new Courier will test a new design direction with customers marking the reign for the new VP of Product Design, Ashley Comeaux. The look is totally different than anything else from Allbirds and shows the influence of Ashely’s previous work at Nike and Adidas.
Ashley Comeaux said the vintage everyday shoe aesthetic “has become a staple in the closets for customers” and that creating the Courier filled this particular gap in the Allbirds collection. The Courier was created using multiple materials and a layered design with distinct stitching and overlays and features what Allbirds described as “a subtle scoop detail on the midsole.
The Courier indicates there may be a new way forward for design at Allbirds closer to other popular casual and athletic shoe brands where Allbirds is looking to compete for a share of the consumer purchases.
Financial Impact
The new shoe silhouette was introduced amid the Allbird's transformation. Earlier this month, Allbirds reported solid progress during the second quarter of 2023, ending 30 June, as it undergoes, business transformation to drive growth.
Net revenue decreased by 9.8% to $70.5 million, compared to last year's increase of 3.8%, and gross profit totaled $30.1 million compared to $28.2 million the year prior.
The upcoming back-to-school and holiday seasons will be key to the Allbirds turnaround story as they look to find more customers and keep their loyal base buying new looks to add to their collections.
